Standing waves, a common problem in public rooms, are caused by sound waves combining and increasing in intensity through repeated reflection from hard surfaces. “Noise soup”, a nasty combination of mid-range sounds, such as vowel sounds from human voices, mechanical sounds such as ventilation noise and machinery noise, is absorbed by the panels.

The attenuation of horizontal noise may permit the formation of strong vertical standing waves.  Our QuietZone™ ceiling panels help balance the sound in both vertical and horizontal directions.

At the same time, weaker sound waves in the range of voice consonants like “p” and “t” reflect off the back panel to enhance acoustic brightness and help discern and clarify voice and music sounds.
