About Argosy Acoustics

Argosy Acoustics Inc. is incorporated in the State of Washington for purposes of dealing with noise problems nationally and internationally. Our Corporate Headquarters is in Seattle, WA and our Asian Branch in Hawaii, servicing the Pacific Rim, is on the island of Kauai.

We are an acoustic product development, sales and service company providing noise control products for highways, construction sites, community noise and building interiors.

Our New Argosy Test Lab at our Headquarters in Seattle will allow us to diagnose noise problems from in the world. Our test procedure, based on insertion loss techniques produces data directly usable for accurate noise loss predictions.  All that’s required for a test is a recording at the site and information on spatial requirements.

We deal with both indoor and outdoor noise and use market needs as the impetus for our research. We specialize in the mitigation of noise problems considered not easily solved with standard noise control products.  We research special noise problems such as low frequency noise, noise with vibration, pure tones, etc. We use as many sound control techniques in our solutions as available to do the job.

We do not use a “one size fits all” philosophy. Our indoor products reduce ambient sound levels and “tune” at the same time to enhance voice clarity in public rooms. Our highway barriers are specially designed to mitigate tire/pavement noise; our Lo-Rez Veil™ panels are “tuned” for mitigating low frequency noise from 250 Hz. down. Our Dolce™ Acoustics Art interior panels combine fine art and noise control as well as “tune’ the room.

Let us help to find these troublesome noises and frequencies, so you will have a "Quiet Solution for a Noisy World."

History

Argosy Acoustics Inc. was founded in 2005 when Clark Dodge and Jack Starbird decided to use the technology gained during the silencing of the Jumbo Class Ferries for Washington State Ferries for highways and buildings. The ship program was highly successful with ambient sound levels of 115 dBA reduced to below 68 dBA in adjacent control spaces. How loud is 115 dBA? Painful!

Our company was built on the fact that our products use much different physics than other noise control products. The “Veil” phenomenon could not be tested in normal reverberation chambers. So after five tries we finally built our own test lab. The Veil is a new pressure wave produced by diffracted sound. We knew it existed just couldn’t prove it.

Were the five tests wasted? Absolutely not! The test at Makakilo resulted in development of the Lo-Rez panels for mitigating Low frequency sound.  Other tests proved the Veil’s profound effect on tire/pavement noise. It absorbs it, so it’s gone for evermore.

Our interior panels, Dolce™ and HearClear™ tested so high, the results had to be dis-regarded. Do they work, yes! Very well. They reduced sound levels and improved voice and music clarity.

Two years ago, John Savage and Todd Armstrong came aboard. John has brought order to the company and made us into a proper business and Todd, a master builder has kept us afloat. The Argosy Test Lab was their idea. They  dreamed it up,  built it, and it is pulling the whole business together. It presents a paradigm shift in the way acoustic products are tested.

We needed business contacts and opportunities to sell our products. Both Clark Dodge and I spent a number of years developing essential friends, contacts and acquaintances both in the continental United States and in Hawaii as well. Most of these opportunities to help with noise problems are still there just stalled by the recession.

So now, with our products prototyped and tested, our business systems in place and our specialized markets opening up, we are ready to proceed with our major launch nationally and in Hawaii.
